![]() Surfing and road biking when it's nice out. A nursing home or loss of functionality should not be the norm, and I want to be part of the solution. I started coaching CrossFit in 2012 at CrossFit MF in Portland.Īfter having watched two grandparents spend the last decade of their lives in a nursing home, I intend to never have to have someone else take care of me when I’m older. I had the privilege of leading a platoon and company of Marines over the course of 4 years on active duty, and now I look forward to empowering the people at MFG to make positive changes in both their own lives, and the lives of those around them. I have always like to compete, so I pursued competitive CrossFit for a couple years before stepping back to enjoy coaching, taking classes, and exercising for life instead of competition. A fellow hockey player introduced me to CrossFit in 2011, so we used CrossFit as a way to get in better shape for hockey and to prepare for the military. I grew up in Maine and played ice hockey from age 4 through college where I studied engineering and went through the Naval ROTC program. I enjoy hiking, playing with my dogs, and biking. I swore to myself that I would never allow myself to be so out of shape that I couldn’t participate in my own life or the life of my family. ![]() ![]() Growing up my parents put us kids before worrying about their own health. After graduating I moved home to work for Misfit Gym and I’ve been here ever since. When did you start coaching Crossfit?I started with the CrossFit Kid’s program at CrossFit 321 before I was named Head Coach of CrossFit Lewisburg in Pennsylvania. I am proud to say that I am both an Owner and a Coach of Misfit Gym Portland I went to graduate school in central Pennsylvania where I first had the opportunity to coach CrossFit and I discovered my true passion in life, helping others be healthier. Around my senior year, after the football season, a friend of mine introduced me to this “crazy new program” called CrossFit and for nearly two years I did the daily workout on. Growing up and playing football and eventually playing at Bates College, the off-season was always about trying to get the edge which involved a lot of time in the weight room and on the track. I grew up in Windham, Maine and from an early age really enjoyed playing sports, specifically football. The elusive yet life changing Cinnamon Ice Cream. I love all of the movements, it's just when the reps exceed 1 that I struggle. What's your favorite/least favorite CrossFit movement? When I take the time in the gym to push myself, especially when surrounded by our community, I am instantly a better husband, son, brother, friend, co-worker, and human. It started out with a more ego driven mission but opened itself up to something that is very much the opposite. This has morphed a tremendous amount in the last decade. I started coaching CrossFit in my parent's garage in 2009. That balance is extremely important to me. Nowadays you’ll either find me in a gym with my face in a camera or computer, or with my lovely better half and our three pups. ![]() My late teens had a very jock-centric vibe which lead me down the strength and conditioning rabbit hole at an earlier age than most. I grew up on the mean streets/cul-de-sacs of Scarborough, Maine.
